Pets, Plants and Personals |

For the most part,
your carrier will be responsible for moving your goods. Nevertheless,
there are some items you must decide to carry – or not carry – with you.
Here are a few tips and guidelines you should use in deciding what to take
with you during the trip - and what NOT to forget.
Pets
More than likely, you’ll have your pet with you
if you’re traveling by car, because it’s against the law to transport any
animals, other than seeing eye dogs, by bus or train, If you’re flying,
however, you will need to transport your pet by plane as well. Contact
your airline to discuss travel arrangements.
Plants
Your carrier will only
transport plants if your new destination is not more than 150 miles away
and doesn’t take longer than 24 hours to reach. No carrier will service
plants en route, so in most cases it’s best to leave plants behind in a
move.
Personals
Compact discs
and records – those albums that you’ve come to love over the years…can
warp in warm temperatures, it may be better to keep them with you in
air-conditioned comfort during the trip. Check with your carrier to
determine if that is necessary.
Arrange for special shipments of your most
valuable items. You will probably choose to carry these valuables with you
or send them by insured or registered mail.
|
|
Last minute
checks…before you leave for your new home: |
-
Check to
make sure house is sealed securely (all doors and windows locked).
-
House keys
and garage door opener left with your real estate agent or a friend, as
agreed.
-
Take one last look around. Check the backyard, garage,
attic or basement, and all closets.
-
Make sure nothing is forgotten in the hustle bustle of the
move.
If possible,
allow for a leisurely amount of travel time between your old location and
new location. If you’re traveling by automobile, try to explore the points
of interest en route. Stop early for a satisfying meal and a good night’s
rest.
